REBT is a short-term cognitive behavioural technique known to be effective in the treatment of a variety of anxiety disorders. There is an emphasise in reorganising cognitive and emotional function, redefining problems, and changing attitudes in order to develop healthy patterns of behaviour.
Irrational beliefs are identified and explored and you are taught that by holding rigid underlying beliefs you become unable to experience negative life occurrences in a healthy way.
This leads to negative feelings such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem etc. Using a variety of cognitive, emotive and behavioural techniques you and the counsellor work together to change those irrational beliefs.
